Dragology: Issue 1

Created with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Indesign

2024

For my magazine project, I envisioned a concept that reflected my passions for fashion, minimalism, and drag. The result was Dragology, a 14-page example magazine that parodied the publication of an academic-style award. I designed categories such as Drag Queen of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Honorary Queen of the Year, Makeup of the Year, and Fashion Trends of the Year. The magazine featured a narrative element, including an expert piece introducing the annual issue and a personal reflection on what drag means to me.
To achieve the desired aesthetic, I explored various design techniques like photo editing, cutting, formatting, and curating a cohesive visual style. My goal was to create an engaging, polished representation of drag's artistry while pushing the boundaries of creative magazine design

In COM ARTS 449: Podcasting and Music, we learned how to use Adobe Audition and SoundCloud to upload audio, as well as how to edit sound and music professionally. This included removing background noise, building a narrative through sound, and creating engaging stories that draw in listeners. For my final project, I chose to focus on drag, similar to my magazine project. I interviewed peers on their knowledge of drag and a quick history of drag. Also, I interviewed a local Madison, Wisconsin drag queen and the 2023 Wisconsin Best Drag Queen award winner, Kayos Lynn Mirage, to share her story and experiences in drag.
